Anson Pimps Edmonton
This is a bit from a Boston Globe article several years ago, when Carter was playing his second season with the Oilers.
I print this because I think it's disgraceful that the Oilers and their local media turned on Carter after he was traded during the next hockey season. Implying that he was a flamboyant version of Flavor Flav who thought that he was too big for good old Ourtown.
UPDATE!: An alert IOF reader calling himself "Terry Jones" just sent me this shocking photo of gangsta hockey playa Anson Carter stealing a pen from a white guy! Rest assured, we'll be following this story as it breaks.

Carter also is a noticeable presence among the Edmonton citizenry.
...
In Edmonton, he lives in a six-floor apartment building in the middle of the city, and people stop him in the street to talk hockey, or beep their horns in recognition when they see him at the gas station or convenience store.
"People think Edmonton's this little farm community with nothing there," he said. "But it's not true. I keep telling guys it's the sleeper city in the league. There's plenty to do there, and 41 times a year I get to play on the greatest ice surface in the league."

What always struck me about Carter was the same thing that always strikes me about Horcoff: they are fucking smart and speak mellifluously. A+ for adding some additional class to the Oil. I can't speak to his outscoring ability, but the loss of Pisani makes us even weaker at RW. I approve of this event, service, or product.
Yeah, I agree. He's an NHL player and the Oilers need more of those.
I assume that he's not looking for much cash. Something in six figures I would think. I'd guess that if he prices himself a shade under the Nilsson/Schremp level, and has a decent camp, then he'll have a gig in mid October.
Not much happened when he was on the ice at evens last season, +22 and -22 in Columbus, so Hitchcock must have had him playing an honest game. He's not the kind of guy that's going to score much at 5v5 unless he cheats for offense IMO. But he's a useful player if the price is right.
Desjardins has him pegged as playing a middling level of opposition, which seems about right. Only two posts. Anson is just as as he seems I think.
I suppose that's the best way to look at it: at $800K, who cares? Still, I can't help but notice that he's played for 6 teams over the past three seasons and none of them have made the playoffs.
Didn't Lowe and MacT kind of bury him on the way out last time? Or was that Pat LaForge?
Tyler:
Lowe definitely did. By my memory the fans were going apeshit after Carter and Niinimaa were traded out of town on deadline day. Lowe said on CHED that he even received a death threat.
It wasn't long before Lowe was sprinkling the poison though, it might have even been the same day when he panicked and said that it was Carter who initiated the move the season prior. And iirc the local media got on board with an enthusiasm that crossed well over the boundaries of good taste (sports journalism ethics here in Lawrence are just a rumour).
Turns out that being a hockey GM is more character-revealing than it is character-building. And if this anecdote isn't enough to convince you of that I'll link to some Brian Burke YouTube. :)
I don't remember MacTavish running him though. That would be out of character and an interesting find.
In any case, water under the bridge and all that. Money talks louder.
